James V. Aukerman


Jim has been a trust and estate attorney in Wakefield for more than 43 years.

Jim’s practice of law continues to concentrate on preserving and transferring wealth, solving long-term care issues, preparing wills and trusts, settling estates, and administering trusts and guardianships, as well as preserving open space.

For many years, Jim was a Certified Financial Planner and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and currently serves on the RI Supreme Court Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law.

Along with his keen interest in helping clients in their estate planning, Jim has had a lifelong interest in preserving land as open space.

Notable Experience

  • Jim served six terms as State Representative for South Kingstown in the Rhode Island General Assembly.
  • He has advised property owners selling or donating development rights or conservation easements in Coventry, Glocester, Little Compton, Hopkinton, Richmond, Tiverton and other Rhode Island communities. He has served as advisor to the Charlestown, South Kingstown and Westerly Land Trusts. He is a long-time member of the Richmond Grange.

  • Jim attended South Kingstown public schools, where he was President of the High School Class of 1966.
  • He enjoys skiing, duck pin bowling, golf and tennis.
