Rebecca E. Dupras


Rebecca advises clients on their personal estate needs by creating comprehensive estate plans often across multiple generations. Rebecca considers many issues when assisting her clients including gift, income and estate taxes as well as long-term care and Medicaid or asset protection planning. She also works with individuals, families and institutional clients in matters of trust and probate administration, and litigation matters. Rebecca focuses on providing peace of mind to her clients, often as they deal with difficult family matters.

Rebecca has also worked for several large charities, including the Rhode Island Foundation, and has particular expertise in helping clients make charitable gifts with complex assets as well as establishing long-term charitable legacy plans and structures. She has advised donors and clients on establishing giving structures such as Private Foundations, Supporting Organizations, Charitable LLCs and Donor Advised Funds.

Rebecca takes pride in building relationships with her clients and other community constituents as part of her practice.


Notable Experience

  • Rebecca has worked on many fiduciary litigation matters, including assisting in an action to recover losses from a complex derivative scheme that cost beneficiaries millions in lost principal and a matter to recover assets based on a claim of undue influence by a charity.
  • Rebecca has assisted with several unique matters of law in the field of estate and trust administration including trustee liability to unknown and unascertained beneficiaries (Rhode Island) and expanding the interests of an inheritance of an unknown heir (1st Circuit Court of Appeals).  
  • Rebecca has helped clients with an innovative estate plan for out of state minor beneficiaries utilizing both Rhode Island guardianship rules and Florida’s Uniform Transfer to Minors Act.
  • Rebecca has assisted with several gifts of complex assets, including the gift of pre-IPO stock to support a new charitable endeavor of an entrepreneurial donor and a gift of virtual currency as part of a court ordered settlement agreement.
  • Rebecca has volunteered her time through the Rhode Island Elderly Pro Bono Services office to assist low-income individuals with guardianships and other estate planning needs.

More About Rebecca

Prior to joining Orson & Brusini, Rebecca was the Vice-President of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation where she led a team that raised nearly $2 billion annually. She also worked at the Rhode Island Foundation and was the Director of Gift Planning for Georgetown University. Rebecca had a solo practice and was an associate at Pannone, Lopes, Devereaux & O’Gara and Moses & Ryan, where she practiced in estate planning, administration and fiduciary litigation.

Rebecca is a national speaker on topics focused on charitable planning and legacy giving. Notably:

  • Conference on Charitable Giving at Stanford University (2015 and 2016)
